Over the recent times, you must have seen the splurge in violent videogames in the market.

Games like GTA: San Andreas, GTA IV, Manhunt 2, Postal 2, Midnight Club 3 etc have hit the retail shelves with a bang, release after release. The amount of violence has exponentially increased in each newer version. These games are changing the very definition of mainstream gaming entertainment. Sadistic and disturbing acts of violence are the sources of entertainment. Exposure to such content can have a deep psychological impact on children and adults playing it. Blood, gore and torture mixed with a nice array of assorted weapons have become the key ingredients of 'slasher' games. There's no room for mercy and your only goal is to win the game by killing as many as you can. Such development in the world of gaming raises questions about ethics, censorship and content management. Dont you think games should teach children a thing or two about good values and behaviour, rather than continued depiction of scenes encouraging violence?

Mashup Application - Microsoft PopFly

Recently got my hands on a mashup application 'Microsoft PopFly'. In general any mashup application is a mixture, a combination of information from various sources. One example is Wikimapia, which has uses customised Google API & Wiki. Another new website in its Beta is Yahoo Pipes.

Microsoft PopFly enables one to create mashups & webpages without having to know coding. Yeah, mashups would a refreshing change in the world of software applications. I guess, it could make software development fun. Mashup basically is a mixture or a combination of information from various sources. It creates an enriched surfing experience. Mashups are the rich applications which would power the next generation computers connected to each other with a superfast network connection.

Microsoft sure knows how to combine aesthetics with technology... a la Apple Inc.

Google Accounts Integration

Google seems to be integrating all of its products with the single google account.

Just noticed one peculiar advantage: Using a single google account, now one can login two or more blogs simultaneously. No need to memorize separate usernames and passwords. Also one can quickly switch over to other google products like Gmail, Orkut, Gtalk etc...

On othe other side, there should be a concern about security issues. Suppose the google account gets hacked, all the services of google products used by the person, are exposed. In this case I think having separate login accounts seems safer.

Blogger 2 Upgrade

Okay, so with the Blogger getting upgraded, I have switched over to its latest version. Thankfully the content and layout of blog doesnt change. However one can sign in using the google account instead of the Blogger.com username. Wonder what happens to the older username ... does it remain active? Gotta check out ... whether one can login Blogger with google account and the blogger account both.

Check out The All New Yahoo Mail Beta featuring 'tabbed browsing' similar to that of firefox. The interface looks quite like Outlook Express, however Yahoo has stuck to its own set of features.

One of the new features is RSS newsfeeds, which you can directly access from your mailbox. Secondly, its got an advanced address book management (very comprehensive contact mgmt).

Basically its a fun site analogous to Yahoo Doodle, wherein you can scratch anything during pastimes or perhaps try designing some complex figure

Here's a sneak peek of Windows Live Mail Beta ( read Hotmail Revamped ). It has very simple minimalistic look with absolutely no eye candy stuff, which otherwise is a trademark style of Microsoft. One 'new feature' is its online SpellCheck which instantly checks your spellings, and suggests correct words.
